 The Artist Profiles series takes you around the country, touring a creative landscape that is fertile with talent. Artists from the bush to the burbs, working in traditional art forms and the latest techno wizardry, will talk about their work and inspirations. A map maker, a fire twirler, a classical musician with a twist, and hip hop artists from Wollongong are just some of the artists being profiled.  HOT FM turns up the heat on that melting pot called youth culture, stirring up the artistic flavours from Cairns to Bunberry to Port Hedland.  Ian Reed Foundation Prize for Radio Drama

 The Ian Reed Foundation was established through a trust created by Ian Reed, a prominent radio writer in the 1970s, to encourage aspiring radio drama writers. This year, as part of LOUD, the Ian Reed Foundation Prize for Radio Drama has been awarded to a young writer aged between 15 to 25. Kiss LOUD Massive Mix Œ98

 What do you get when you combine 60 young DJs with 60 records in 60 minutes? A new category for the Guinness Book of records and one hell of a dance mix! Melbourne's KISS FM celebrate the LOUD festival with Massive Mix ­ 60 DJs each mixing a 60 second track into an hour long jam. Seriously fresh and positively funky.  January 1 sees the launch of a brand new youth station in Sydney - which couldn't be better for LOUD! Tune to 96.1 FM during the month for your chance to get on air and showcase your artistic wares!

 LOUD FM is the first truly national youth-produced radio network and the first broadcast of its kind ever attempted! The Community Broadcasting Association of Australias satellite network of nearly one hundred community radio stations, sees the festival out with the LOUD FM extravaganza. Tune in to your local station to hear 24 hours of the best young volunteer presenters, producers, DJs and engineers.  LOUD Alchemy

 SBS Radio's multicultural youth music program Alchemy has put together a sonic exploration of music and culture, as heard through the ears of young people around the country. Hear the music that influences, defines and stimulates them, ranging from techno to funk, experimental to hip hop ­ and everything in between. Finalists in the LOUD Alchemy demo tape competition will be put through the aural wringer by a panel of music industry judges.  Mouth Piece

 Aspiring radio makers and sound artists exercise their tonsils by shouting out, speaking up and mouthing off.  National Indigenous Radio Service

 The National Indigenous Media Association of Australia's satellite network will broadcast the community radio extravaganza LOUD FM around the country ­ from the Top End to the Torres Straits, Cairns to The Kimberleys, and from Brisbane to Broome.   Radio National

 Radio National is ABC Radio's specialist information and arts network, giving listeners access to intelligent coverage in social, cultural and political issues including the environment, music, art, womens issues, science, media, education, law and politics. The presenters' line up includes a swag of respected radio personalities, such as Robyn Williams, Phillip Adams, Lucky Oceans and Louise Adler. You'll also hear the latest music in every genre (except rock!) ­ world, jazz, contemporary and lounge ­ and find out about current trends in the arts. When you tune into Radio National during the LOUD festival in January, be prepared for a bevy of young voices, stories, artists, attitudes and experiences. A LOUD crowd will appear on The Science Show, Breakfast, Earthbeat, Other Worlds and a pile of other Radio National programs throughout January.

 Here are just a few of the Radio National highlights: Find out what it's like to live with a bunch of students in a share household when The Comfort Zone transforms into a virtual student household. Landlord Alan Saunders hands over the keys to the new kids on the block, as they move their musty old furniture and second hand cutlery into the studio and explore youthful ideas of architecture and design, food, gardens and travel. Don't pay your bond until after the housewarming party when The Comfort Zone gets LOUD on January 31st at 8.30am.

 Women Out LOUD spent two weeks with students from Nimbin in northern NSW, finding out how the children of north coast commune dwellers see their own lives. Discover the heart of the rainbow region as young local women take you on a tour of the good and bad of communal living. January 31 at 5pm.

 January 23rd at 11am Awaye!, Radio National's Indigenous art and culture program presents "Hey mum, aren't I deadly now!" It's a warm, funny and honest account of a young Indigenous woman's travels across Canada, meeting and exchanging cultures ­ as well as ideas and laughs ­ with other native peoples (repeated January 24th at 6pm).

 The Religion Report presents a special LOUD edition focussing on young people, spirituality and religion on January 28 at 8.30am. And on Thursday January 29, LOUD presenter Michael Dwyer hosts The Media Report. He'll be asking whether youth is really a category worth focussing on in the media. Do young people really have a claim to special treatment in the media, and how are young people usually represented?

 Background Briefing (January 25 at 9.10am, repeated January 27 at 7.10pm) explores the world of raves and drug culture and finds that the dangers aren't all in the drugs, they're also in the policies of nightclub owners and in the fear of detection that many young people share. A LOUD guest programmer will explore the world of new and innovative music on Sound Quality on January 30 at 10pm, and Other Worlds on Saturday 31 at 10pm.

 So, Do You Come Here Often?

 "So, Do You Come Here Often?" explores issues and attitudes to sex, sexuality, relationships and sexual health ­ as experienced through the eyes of a bunch of young radio producers and their peers. The series is conceived, produced and presented by a group of "Eat risk" youths ­ ranging in age from 15 to 20 years. It features the voices of young people discussing topics such as negotiating safe sex, why boys only want one thing, navigating relationships, sex, drugs and fears that young people have about sex. The series also looks at gay sex in the suburbs and debunking the myths of the orgasm. WHERE Triple J, community radio stations and Pillow Talk WHEN Throughout January

 Pillow Talk helps people find positive ways of dealing with everyday issues concerning relationships, sex and sexuality.  Tune in for LOUD's reviews of the most innovative, entertaining, irreverent, appealing and appalling Internet sites around.  Grab a seat ring-side to hear the sparring match between the Hot Hits Hosting Competition winner and Ugly Phil ­ "in the ring" for an hour together with Jackie O.   Triple J

 Isn't it amazing how when you're born, you're surrounded by adults who can't wait to hear you say something. Then as soon as you do, they tell you to shut up for the next 20 years. Triple J can relate to that. Since Triple J hit the air back in the 70s, various oldies haven't been too happy with what we've had to sayŠ or play.

Triple J is proud to be part of the world's LOUDest youth festival and throughout January you'll be hearing young people on Triple J that are so loud, they barely need a microphone.From January 12, tune into The Morning Show at 9 am to hear reports about what it's like to be a young Australian in 1998. LOUD reporters explore current affairs from a fresh perspective, discussing issues such as sexuality, disability, education, work and culture.

Creatures Of The Spotlight (January 18 and 25 at 9 pm) will be unleashing a team of young reporters and producers to discuss film, TV, video, theatre, performance, music, literature and the visual arts. As a special LOUD feature, Creatures has scoured the country to find the best young audio artists.

 As always, The Australian Music Show presents the latest in young Australian talent and will feature contributions from radio makers uncovered through LOUD's presenters' competition. Wednesday nights at 10pm.

 The World Music Show will be unearthing globe-style groovers and finding out just what young Australians from non-Anglo backgrounds are listening to. Jaslyn Hall ventures out of the studio and into the lounge rooms of young people to let them program their own favourite songs. Monday nights at 10pm.

 Mix Up has rounded up a posse of Australia's best undiscovered DJ's. Their Bedroom DJ Competition has lifted the lid on our suburban and rural dance mix maestros. Turn your radio up and shake your rump with Mix Up: Saturday nights at 10pm.
