Topless Women Talk About Their Lives

SBS saves us (again) from the silly season with a choice New Zealand comedy/drama that has nothing whatsoever to do with topless women

those crazy nz kids

Topless Women Talk About Their Lives is a New Zealand series made up of five-minute episodes that follows six ordinary, kinda daggy Auckander youngsters as they stumble their way through life's daily dramas.
Unlike some recent Australian tv dramas about young people,
Topless Women Talk About Their Lives is totally devoid of any pretentiousness and its sharp deadpan humour, wicked NZ soundtrack (3Ds, The Clean, Headless Chickens, Snapper), trashy 80s-style opening titles and a plot synopsis that satirises the events of the previous episode, qualifies it my books as a saturday tv event, an instant half-hour party in yr very own loungeroom.

Written and directed by short filmaker, actor and musician (The Muttonbirds) Harry Sinclair, Topless Women Talk About Their Lives has been made into a feature film, with the Australian release happening sometime this summer and the soundtrack available on NZ label Flying Nun. SBS is screening six episodes a pop on Saturday nights at 9pm.

And if you tune in early (8.30pm), you'll get treated to Liquid Television's very sleek manga-ish cartoon Aeon Flux.
