"I Can't Believe It's Not Water!"

The bottling and marketing of purified water began in the early eighties - I was sure it was going to follow the same path as the rubix cube, and be just another 80s fad that would slowly fade away....Not so! During the 1996 Clean Up Australia Day water bottles were amongst the ten most common garbage items to be collected.

Through workshops held as part of Brisbane's Too High Young Women and the Arts Festival, Reservoir Grrrls from looked at how water is packaged and marketed and at the reasons we buy bottled water, specially since the basic chemical composition in most brands of bottled water is much the same as tap water.

Culture Jam!
(This is this part where you try and challenge your own and others perspectives on things like what role consumerism plays in one's life)

Reservoir Grrls put together a series of stickers that you can stick on yr water bottle when you reuse it, featuring spoof brands like the mouthwatering 'Brisbane River', the beat stomping 'Pulse' and for sporty types, 'Tap'. The stickers also have information about the pollution that water bottles create, how to find out more about your water supply as well as some handy hints on how to purify your own water.
