This double cd collects the first 2 albums (originally released on Chunk records in ë95) of this Massachusetts country 4 piece. Legend has it that these guys began playing their country influenced songs in the kitchen after their live 'rock and roll shows', realised that this slow soft dark and laidback style was what theyíd rather be playing and so in keeping with tradition recorded these 2 albums in their kitchen. In one respect there are so many great heartfelt songs on these albums that i am forced to feel bad for ever having said a bad thing against them but at the same time i find it difficult to get past the few songs that really are quite painful to listen to. If you can get past the initial opposition (i at least found i had) with country sounding tunes there are many gems on this recording collection such as the delicate Sweet Sally, Television- one of the most heartfelt love songs you will ever hear (even if it is
about a tv set) and the beautiful One Hand an ultra sad tune that makes you feel almost as lathargic as the singer (if that is possible) just by listening . I have found however that SMB songs do age well in time and after many listens you too may be crooning along whilst sitting on yer front porch on a hot summer afternoon.
