YUMMY in sandwiches and salads, lots of enzymes and nutrients, expensive to buy but easy to d.i.y.! - minimum effort for you and your flatmates, hours of entertainment watching your sprouts grow....

What You Need

  • seeds
  • rubber band
  • jar
  • water
  • cheesecloth/wettex

Seeds to Sprout
Alfafa, fenugreek, lentils, beans, radish, sunflower ...or to save choosing you can get packets of "sprouting mix" from health stores or organic co-ops and shops

Step One
Put enough seeds in a jar so that they spread out evenly over the bottom. Cut the wettex into a piece that fits well over the top of the jar. Fasten with a rubber band.

Step Two
Fill the jar half way with lukewarm water. Let sit for a day

Step Three
Drain out the water - this water is especially good as plant food cos it's chockfull of nutrients. Rinse your seeds twice a day and keep in a dark, dry spot like a cupboard.

Step Four
After 2-5 days, depending on the type of seeds and the weather (if it's cold they just want to be seeds), your sprouts will be ready to eat. Store in the fridge in an airtight container and start counting down to your next sproutsnack...
