The expression - the art work - will be digitally stored, somewhere. The gallery will be redefined. New technologies that stimulate the senses will create the experience of the art work - portable, permanent or transient - that communicates a newer form of meaning - adapting its message to suit the audience - according to the nature and constraints specified by the artist.
(The art work may try to temp you, seduce you, debit you or credit you - artitsts and audeince: proceed with caution)

January 1998: The internet's world wide web is an effective medium for distributing images and text to a global audience. It is an effective medium for profiling and promoting artists and their work.

The Loud Online Gallery is an attempt to profile and promote young Australian artists who have produced work that can be distributed or sampled through the medium of the web.
Most of the work displayed is composed of digitally created or
enhanced images. I have attempted to include some video and sound work - but, current technology and bandwidth restrictions limit the impact of these works. Nonetheless, the artists involved will pursue their work, and one day soon technology will catch up with their medium of expression.

The people who are presented in this gallery differ in age, experience, attitude and outlook. Some are pursuing an artist career, whilst others don't want to be referred to as artists. But all of the people included have an appreciation for technology and its use for artistic and cultural expression. They are all competent users of the digital tools available to them. They are highly motivated and eager to keep developing their talents and continue creating art work.
The biographies that appear on the pages have been created using information sent in by the artists. Rather than having an uniform and formal structure, the biographies in this gallery aim to reveal the personality behind the artists as well as their general outlook on their work and their future.
These web pages aim also to inspire you - the audience - to create. If you can browse the web - you have the ability to create meaningful and engaging content for the web. See the resource page for references.

The Loud Festival put out a call for submissions to the Online Gallery and the best work received is presented here. More effort is needed in promoting online and new technologies as a medium for cultural and artistic expression and promotion. It is hoped that government supported initiatives such as the Online Gallery will continue to occur in the future.

Good luck to the artists involved with the 1998 Loud Online Gallery.
